Around Town, Santa Cruz
One of the most surprising and humbling aspects of the walking project was discovering that only a sliver of this place that I've known for so long and thought I knew so well was familiar to me as I wove my way back and forth across its 445 land miles (there are an additional 162 miles below sea level, covered in salt water). I repeatedly found myself wandering through neighborhoods I’d never heard of, discovering new (to me) waterways, and chatting with people at the farthest reaches of the county whom I would most likely never had the occasion to meet otherwise.
